Korean labour law adds one day’s pay for any worker who turns up on every scheduled day in a week. Part-time workers qualify too, as long as the contracted week is 15 hours or more. Enter your hourly wage, hours per day and days per week and this works out what should be added.
The formula is (contracted weekly hours ÷ 40) × 8 × hourly wage. A full 40-hour week earns eight hours of extra pay — a whole day — and a 20-hour week earns half of that, four hours. Working beyond 40 hours does not increase it: the allowance is always calculated against 40 hours, and the excess is a matter for overtime pay instead.
This is where the figure of 209 hours in Korean payroll comes from: 40 contracted hours plus 8 holiday hours, multiplied by the average number of weeks in a month (about 4.345). Below 15 hours a week no allowance arises, and overtime, night-work and holiday premiums are not calculated here.
